What are your creative passions? This might seem like a simple question, but when you sit down and think about it, you might need to dig a little deeper to get to the answers. We all have things we consider hobbies or that we enjoy doing, and then there are the things that fuel us and fire us up, the things that make us feel energized and inspired when we do them. These are our passions.
Oprah once said, “Passion can’t be found in your head because it lives in your heart.” This is true and is often why we sometimes have a difficult time determining what our creative passions are. We want to think of the answers when we really need to look in our hearts, and usually, this involves a little soul-searching.
If you are unsure of what your creative passions are or need some guidance narrowing your scope down to define your passions, I have a few ideas to consider that may help you in the process.
Think about your favorite hobbies as a child.
What did you enjoy doing as a kid? Are there any activities that you still do now? Children usually live carefree lives and do things because they want to do them rather than out of necessity. Pondering what you loved to do as a child will give you some clues about what your creative passions might be.
Try new things.
Don’t be afraid to branch out and try something new. Whether it’s taking a painting class or trying a recipe from a cuisine you’ve never prepared before, giving yourself the opportunity to experience new things will open your mind up and let you embrace what’s important to you.
Look at the objects that you surround yourself with.
What do you spend your money on? What you put your money into is a big indicator of what you really love. Maybe it’s artwork or books or makeup or sports memorabilia — whatever it might be, if you’re willing to invest in it, then it’s likely one of your creative passions.
Make an inspiration board.
I find that Instagram is a great place to find your inspiration board and I bet you didn’t even know it. Scroll through the “posts I’ve liked” option and look…
